Kern County Water Agency’s Improvement District No. 4 Water Education Program

Each year, the Kern County Water Agency’s Improvement District No. 4’s (ID4) comprehensive Water Education Program educates thousands of Bakersfield’s students about Kern County’s local and state water supplies, and the importance of water and its conservation.  The goal of the program is to provide meaningful learning opportunities that inspire students to have a lifelong appreciation of this precious resource.  The program incorporates teacher workshops, grade-level materials, presentations, videos and student contests.  All programs meet California Content Standards, including Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards. 

All programs are offered free of charge to all public and private schools located within ID4’s service area.

Project Wet

ID4 is proud to be a facilitator of Project WET (Water Education for Today). ID4 teacher workshops feature classroom-proven, action-based learning activities that make water topics come alive.

K-6th Grade Programs

This comprehensive standards-based program incorporates grade-level materials, presentations, videos and student contests.

7Th-12Th Grade Programs

In this presentation and in action-based lessons, students learn about local and state water supplies, as well as the importance of groundwater when it comes to a sustainable water supply. Students will also have the opportunity to explore the variety of career opportunities available in the water industry.

Video Series

The water that comes out of the tap has quite a story to tell. In this six-video segment, as part of the “Do the Science” series, the water purification process is explored through scientific concepts, along with a preview of the variety of careers available in the water industry as demonstrated at the Kern County Water Agency’s Improvement District No. 4 Henry C. Garnett Water Purification Plant.
